Timarcha, commonly known as bloody-nosed beetles or oil beetles, are a genus of leaf beetles found in Europe and North Africa. They inhabit grasslands, woodlands, and meadows. Timarcha beetles have elongated bodies and are typically black or dark brown in coloration. When threatened, they secrete a toxic substance from their joints, which can cause irritation or blistering on the skin. Their larvae feed on various plants, including those in the mustard family.
