When working with angles and placing them within a coordinate system, it is important to add or subtract the angle with the correct magnitude and direction. To do this, we designate one side of the angle as the initial side (usually the positive x-axis in a coordinate system) and the other side as the final side. When measuring this oriented angle, we always proceed from the initial side to the final side. Moving counterclockwise results in a positive angle. Moving clockwise results in a negative angle. In cases where a larger angle is subtracted from a smaller one, the result will be a negative angle.
