Conglomerate 2

by STEAM3D+

Description

**Petrology:** Conglomerate is a coarse-grained clastic sedimentary rock that is composed of a substantial fraction of rounded to subangular gravel-size clasts, which have to be larger than 2 mm in diameter. Conglomerates typically contain finer grained sediment (sand, silt, clay or their combination) called matrix, which is filling their interstices and is often cemented by calcium carbonate, iron oxide, silica, or hardened clay.

**Genesis:** Conglomerates are deposited similarly as other clastic sediments in a variety of sedimentary environments, e.g., deep water and shallow marine, fluvial or glacial environments.
