Computers are composed of two main components: hardware and software. Hardware refers to the physical, electronic parts of the computer, most of which are located inside the computer case. Inside the case, key components include the motherboard, which houses the microprocessor (CPU), RAM, expansion cards, and various external devices. The motherboard is responsible for controlling the functions of these components, with the CPU acting as the "brain" of the computer, executing instructions and managing tasks. The motherboard also features connection slots for peripheral devices and memory slots, both of which are important for determining the computer's expandability and performance. Computers typically have one or more disk drives, such as a hard disk drive (HDD), which are devices used for storing and retrieving data. An HDD consists of rotating platters coated with magnetic material. Other essential hardware components include external devices like the monitor, mouse, keyboard and speakers, which together form a functional system. The computer case also houses a power supply, which ensures that all components receive the appropriate amount of electrical energy to operate effectively.
