Refractive Errors of the Eye

by STEAM3D

Description

The most common types of refractive errors are myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism, all of which can be corrected with appropriate lenses. Nearsightedness (myopia) occurs when the eye grows too long from front to back, causing light to focus in front of the retina instead of directly on it. This results in good near vision but poor distance vision. Far-sightedness (hyperopia) is a condition where light is focused behind the retina, resulting in blurry close vision, while distant objects may appear clear. Astigmatism is a condition that causes blurred vision because of an irregularly shaped cornea, or in some cases, an abnormal curvature of the lens inside the eye.
