Microraptors rank among small feathered Dromaesaurids living in the Early Cretaceous (c. 125 ma) area of present-day China. The largest species of the genus exceeds one meter in length. They were described from findings in the famous locality of Liaoning (ca 500 km N-NW from Peking). Its jaws yielded small teeth. The animal probably possessed four wings (similar to biplanes), and its flight was supposed to be primarily passive gliding. The original coloration (i.e. melanin) has been described in the fossil feather record. Their prey were insects and small vertebrates. ## Keywords Mesozoic, Cretaceous, dinosaurs, Theropoda, dromaeosaurs
