Female and Male Pelvis

by STEAM3D

Description

Differences between the adult **female** and **male pelvis** are primarily related to function and body size. Generally, the bones of the male pelvis are thicker and heavier, adapted to support a heavier physical build and stronger musculature. The greater sciatic notch in the male hip bone is narrower and deeper compared to the broader notch in females. Because the female pelvis is adapted for childbirth, it is wider than the male pelvis, as seen in the increased distance between the anterior superior iliac spines. *LICENSES AND ATTRIBUTIONS CC licensed content, Shared previously, 8.3 The Pelvic Girdle and Pelvis, Authored by: OpenStax College.
