Description

**Fractured bones** can be repaired through either closed or open reduction, depending on the specific injury. Fractures are classified according to their complexity, location and other distinguishing characteristics. Common types include transverse, oblique, spiral, comminuted, impacted, greenstick, open (compound) and closed (simple) fractures. The healing process begins with hematoma formation, followed by the development of internal and external calli. During healing, osteoclasts resorb dead bone, while osteoblasts generate new bone, which gradually replaces the cartilage within the calli. The calli then unite, remodeling occurs, and the fracture heals completely. *LICENSES AND ATTRIBUTIONS CC licensed content, Shared previously, Donna Browne, Skeletal Stystem Module 6: Fractures: Bone Repair, Authored by: OpenStax College.
