Panther Chameleon (Furcifer pardalis)

by STEAM3D

Description

The panther chameleon (*Furcifer pardalis*) is one of the largest chameleon species, capable of growing up to half a meter in length. Chameleons are well-known for their ability to actively change colors, which reflects their mood and serves as an important communication method between individuals. Their unique limb structure features fused fingers (two and three), which facilitate grasping branches. Chameleons have fused eyelids and highly mobile eyes that can move and focus independently. Another remarkable feature is their tongue, often as long as their body, which can be projected at incredible speeds to capture prey in under 0.07 seconds. This tongue-shooting mechanism relies on a complex structure of the hyoid bone, muscles and cartilage, with speed largely generated by the rapid contraction of specialized tongue muscles.
