A view from the air of San Francisco's most famous bridge, the impressive Golden Gate Bridge. At the time of its opening in 1937 it was both the longest and the tallest suspension bridge in the world, with a main span of 1,280 metres (4,200 feet) and a total height of 227 metres (746 feet). Its distinctive orange colour helps with visibility in the frequent fogs that occur over this stretch of the San Francisco Bay.
